What does it mean to be allergic to the sun?

The sun can burn almost all people if they have been exposed long enough to the suns harmful ultraviolet rays. A condition that is referred to as photosensitivity describes a condition that makes some people’s skin especially sensitive to the sunlight and the skin reactions that can occur due to exposure. An allergy to the sun is also a term that some people use to describe photosensitivity. When individuals that have this condition are exposed to light from the sun and sometimes even to fluorescent lighting that is often used indoors, they can develop a rash that can either be red or pink. It can be accompanied by an itchy burning feeling with blisters that are blotchy, along with scaly patches or spots that are raised. This type of rash can last for many days. If this is a problem you suffer with when you have been exposed to the sunlight, it is important to consult with your family physician. They have the experience to properly diagnose your problem and prescribe the appropriate medication, such as steroids or oral beta-carotene.
