Are there side affects to allergy medication?

Anyone that suffers from allergies takes allergy medication. Some people only take allergy medication at certain times of the year such as in the spring or summer when flowers and plants are in bloom. Others suffer from more severe allergies that need medication all year round. Unfortunately, those that need to take allergy medication all year round can suffer from the side effects of allergy medications.

The severity of the side effects depends on how often and how long the allergy medication is taken. Some of the milder side effects include mild dizziness, scratchy throat and mild infrequent coughing. However, the more serious symptoms can include nausea, severe dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea, shortness of breath, hives, and rashes. If you suffer from the more, sever side effects you should consult your doctor immediately. Most doctors will prescribe ointments or creams for any skin related side effects. Other prescriptions vary in strength according to the severity of the symptom. If the symptoms of the side effects are too severe, your doctor may advise you to discontinue that allergy medication and prescribe a medication that is in a different class or family. The more you are able to tell your doctor about your symptom the more accurate and effective the treatment will be.
