Can people be allergic to peanuts?

Peanuts taste so good and many people enjoy having them. Not just anyone can though and the reason why is some are allergic to them. Out of all the food items on the market, it's very common for people to be allergic to peanuts.

Peanuts are actually not real nuts instead they are called legumes. What makes them similar to nuts is the protein. People who are allergic to nuts are often allergic to other ones such as hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, almonds, pistachios, cashes, macadamias, and pecans. They all have almost the same protein and that's why when you're allergic to one, you usually are to all.

Breaking out in rashes with hives or eczema is a very common way to react with peanut allergies but there are other reactions. You can have diarrhea, nausea, cramps and even vomiting. Some experience watery eyes, runny nose and wheezing. There are others who feel very faint and possibly lightheaded.

In order to cause these reactions from happening always avoid items that contain peanuts. People often forget that food items such as ice cream might have them. It's good to read the levels carefully so you won't get sick.
