Food allergy is described as abnormal responses to one or more food items. It is triggered by the immune system of an individual’s body. The immune system generates IgE, which is a protein. The IgE works as the antibody to the food. It spreads in the blood and gets attached to mast cells (present in tissues of human body) and basophils (present in blood).
The entire procedure discussed above mostly occurs in people who have a family history of allergy. This doesn’t signify that your ancestors must suffer from food allergy for you to get food allergy symptoms; it can be any form of allergy.
Now, let’s find out what are the common varieties of food that can trigger allergic symptoms. Experts say that al foods that we eat can cause allergic reactions. However, the fact is: only a handful of foodstuffs are blamed for causing 90% of the allergic reactions. The list includes items like, eggs, milk, shellfish including shrimps, mussels and crabs), fish, wheat, soya, nuts grown on trees (including hazelnuts, walnuts and almonds) and peanuts.
There are several tests that can detect food allergy. The most common ones among them are skin prick test and blood test. The later is the best tool for diagnosing IgE mediated food allergies. |
