There are as many as 9 to 30% of the people in the United States that are affected by the condition that is known as atopic eczema, as stated by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. It is also known as being the type that a majority of eczema sufferers acquire. The word atopic is often in reference to inherited groups of diseases that tend to expand into conditions of allergies like hay fever and asthma. Generally this is a problem that only affects infants and children that are young. Many times these children will outgrow the condition by the time they have reached the age of two years old. However, there are some who will experience problems throughout their lifetime. This condition can appear on any part of the body, but it most commonly appears on the hands, feet, face, and the knees. It can produce a rash that is very itchy, and it can also cause oozing crusty areas that usually appear on the scalp or the face.
