Do children outgrow allergies?

Allergies protect us however, there are times when our immune systems take it too far and overreact to certain foods and certain airborne pollutants. When this happens especially in children and babies, it can be a traumatic experience. The symptoms range anywhere from a runny nose, stomach aches, itchy eyes, eczema, and rashes.

Childhood allergies are becoming very common these days and we need to learn exactly how to cope them as part of our daily lifestyle. Recent studies show that the number of childhood allergies is increasing. Also increasing is Anaphylaxis, which is a severe allergic reaction, which occurs when breathing is extremely difficult and the blood pressure drops.

Children that are very young quite often are allergic to a wide variety of things. One of the most common is food such as nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, and dairy. These foods when ingested for the first time quite often produce mild to severe allergic reactions.

Some of the more common signs that a child is allergic to a certain food are the appearance of a rash, eczema, or hives. Some children will develop vomiting and an upset stomach. If your child develops more serious symptoms or develops breathing difficulties, you should contact your doctor immediately. Never assume the reactions will disappear on their own. The only way to alleviate severe allergic reactions is to consult your family doctor.
