Why do some people need allergy shots?

Many people experience allergies on a daily basis. People that suffer from allergies experience itchy eyes, runny noses, hives, constant sneezes, rashes and various other symptoms. The symptoms go according to what you are allergic to. The most common solution for most allergy sufferers is getting allergy shots.

Allergy shots help to reduce the effects or the symptoms that are commonly associated with allergies. The purpose of getting shots for allergies is to help desensitize the body against the various contaminants, which cause allergies. Most people get allergy shots over the course of 3-5 years in order to get over their allergy symptoms.

Getting allergy shots or Immunotherapy only effective when the cause of the allergy symptoms is determined. Allergy shots are not effective if what triggers the allergies is not identified. Usually most people get allergy shots for the more common allergens such as roses, grass, dust mites, pollen and various other airborne substances.

Immunotherapy can be an expensive treatment. If you are considering getting allergy, shots are sure to consult your family doctor first. There are many options available and your doctor can help you to determine which course of treatment is best for you. Also, be sure to check your medical coverage to ensure allergy treatments are covered.
